The Growth Of Newton Abbot

Newton Abbot was a stopping place for travellers that chose to take the south route around Dartmoor, unless they choose to stop in South Brent, Buckfastleigh and Ashburton, and was the thoroughfare to and from Teignmouth, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham around the River Teign. With Moor on one side and sea on the other, Newton Abbot developed along the natural channel through which travellers needed to venture creating a natural highway.
